The WITS (Wellness in the Schools) Lab for December featured beans. The students discussed the different types of beans and learned the best recipes and uses for each type.
The “buzz” on beans: Beans are an excellent non-meat protein source. Protein is needed for building muscles.Beans are a good way to get protein because:
- they have very little fat
- they have lots of fiber (helps prevent heart disease and diabetes)
- they are inexpensive
- beans are a good source of vitamin b, calcium, and potassium
The students all prepared and sampled Hummus, made with chickpeas (garbanzo beans)
HERE is the recipe for the Hummus our students prepared the the WITS lab.See More News
