NYC Kids Project
01/03/2018NYC Kids Project, a social justice arts organization advocating acceptance and inclusion, visited Pre-Kindergarten – 4th grade classes. Their performances and classroom programs use theatrical puppets, storytelling, sign-language, adaptive equipment, and facilitated dialogue to promote understanding and acceptance. Students are encouraged to ask questions and examine attitudes surrounding disabilities and differences, fostering empathy and awareness of commonalities.
For Pre-Kindergarten – 1st grade the focus is on “making friends” – even though people seem different on the outside – everybody likes to play.
In our 2nd – 4th grade classes the students talked about disability awareness and anti-bullying.
Our students were engaged and entertained while learning valuable lessons – people may look different – but everyone enjoys making new friends.
