Studying Immigration

12/21/2023

With the motto e pluribus unum (from many, one), Americans are reminded that they share the immigrant experience of beginning anew in the land of opportunity. Our 8th Graders, with Ms. Rennell, studied the four waves of immigration into the United States and the various reasons people immigrated. They learned that most people came to the United States for freedom – freedom of religion, freedom from poverty, freedom from persecution – and looked for opportunity.

The students then researched their own family’s path to the United States. Our 8th grade families came to the USA in the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th waves of immigrants. They came from China, Ecuador, England, France, Greece, Hong Kong, Ireland, Italy, Jamaica, Korea, Nicaragua, Poland, Portugal, Puerto Rico, Romania, Spain, St. Lucia, and Ukraine. Families from many countries, make one 8th Grade Class.
