Celebrating Hispanic Heritage
09/20/2024Students in all grades at Epiphany are celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
In our Early Childhood Center students are learning to make tortillas and reading books about Hispanic holidays and celebrations. In their art classes they are making Maracas and listening to Hispanic dance music.
In the Lower School students are learning about the artists Frida Kahlo and Diego Rivera. They studied their artwork, looked at pictures and videos and asked questions about the work. They loved it when they spotted Frida Kahlo in Diego Rivera’s work!
They have also begun studying Mesoamerica.
Our young Upper School students are reading books by Pam Muñoz Ryan. The older ones are reading The House on Mango Street by Sandra Cisneros and comparing her writing to other Hispanic American authors.
In Upper School Spanish classes students are studying “Dia de los Muertos” and learning about Hispanic countries and cultures and their influences around the world.
In Art our students have been painting pictures inspired by “Amate”, a tradition of paper making from Mexico. The paper is made from the pulp of fig and mulberry trees.
